Peach Fuzz: Pantone's Color of the Year 2024

What Is Pantone’s Color of the Year?
Every year since 1999, Pantone selects a Color of the Year. This color is meant to represent “what is taking place in our global culture” as “reflected through the language of color” (“What Is Color of the Year?”). Pantone’s goal was to make the world think about the relationship between culture—and what’s happening in the world—and color.
How Is Pantone’s Color of the Year Chosen?
When Pantone chooses their Color of the Year, they look at what is happening in the world—not just in the US or Asia or Europe. The Color of the Year is “reflective of a lifestyle trend…the color really reflects what’s taking place in the global culture at that moment in time.”
Pantone also takes into consideration the “emotional aspect of color.” They ensure that the color reflects what’s taking place in our “global culture at a specific moment in time.” If a certain color is popular, it’s probably because of what’s happening in the world at that time. So there are “reasons why a color family or individual color comes into prominence when it does” (“What Is Color of the Year?”).
What Is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2024?
For 2024, Pantone’s Color of the Year is Peach Fuzz (PANTONE 13-1023). Pantone describes Peach Fuzz as a “heartfelt” peach color that brings a feeling of “kindness and tenderness.” By choosing Peach Fuzz as the Color of the Year, Pantone wanted to communicate a message of “caring and sharing, community and collaboration” (“What Is Peach Fuzz?”).
Pantone describes Peach Fuzz as an “appealing peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange,” which inspires “belonging” and an “opportunity for nurturing.” They wanted to choose a color for 2024 that helped people find peace and comfort.
Pantone states, “At a time of turmoil in many aspects of our lives, our need for nurturing, empathy and compassion grows ever stronger” (“What Is Peach Fuzz?”). The color Peach Fuzz is meant to express this idea of living a life that is peaceful, healthy, creative, and full of happy, human connections. To Pantone, Peach Fuzz represents being close to those we love and savoring quiet moments alone. It’s a warm color that expresses compassion and empathy, and that reminds us of simpler times, while also being contemporary and taking us into the future (“What Is Peach Fuzz?”).
